Lantern Walk

Support the Talbot Avenue Bridge Committee and our partners!

It’s Giving Tuesday! Received many appeals for donations today? Well, here’s one more…

If you have not already contributed and are financially able to do so, we encourage you to make a tax-deductible donation to one or more of the following groups:

Talbot Avenue Bridge Committee

The budget for the annual Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk typically runs around $1500. We’ve depleted most of our funds to cover costs associated with this year’s lantern walk and would love to get a head start on fundraising for next year. The more funds raised, the more we can focus on event planning, instead of fundraising. And any extra funds we are able to raise will allow us to further improve the event and also help support additional community social and educational events throughout the year, such as the  Talbot Avenue Bridge Meet & Greet we sponsored this past June. For more information about our committee, see talbotavenuebridge.org/committee.

IMPACT Silver Spring

IMPACT Silver Spring has been a steadfast supporter of bridge-related events for eight years, serving as the fiscal sponsor for the committee that organized the Talbot Avenue Bridge Centennial Celebration (2018) and the Talbot Avenue Bridge Committee, which grew out of it. As an all-volunteer grassroots community group with a small budget, this has been a huge help to us and enabled donations made toward bridge-related events to be tax-deductible.

IMPACT Silver Spring’s mission is to advance racial equity, justice and liberation by working for change in individuals, communities, organizations, and systems. For over 25 years the organization has engaged in an impressive variety of programs, as part of their efforts to build a thriving, equitable, and just Montgomery County. We encourage you to support this local community organization that’s been of great support to our committee!

Washington Revels

Washington Revels has also been a wonderful supporter of bridge-related events over the years. Its Jubilee Voices ensemble sang at the Talbot Avenue Bridge Centennial Celebration (2018) and members of the ensemble also sang at both the inaugural and 6th Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk (2018 and 2023) and Talbot Avenue Bridge Spring Party (2019), and a recording of their singing has been played during the lantern walk many times. And its Heritage Voices ensemble led singing in both 2024 and 2025 Lantern Walks. We’ve only been able to financially compensate the ensembles a few of these times and at a level far below their usual fees. Their singing has been a true gift to our community. If you’ve also appreciated their gift of song, we encourage you to gift them back with a donation!

Note: Another way you can support Washington Revels is by purchasing tickets to attend their Winter Revels: Andalusian Treasures performance, just two miles away at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, December 12-20. Many Jubilee and Heritage Voices ensemble members will be performing in the show, which features themes such as communities coming together and searching for the light on the darkest night of the year that may resonate with many Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk attendees.
