The 8th Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk will take place Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Talbot Avenue Bridge Committee organizes the annual Talbot Avenue Bridge Lantern Walk, a family-friendly community event that weaves together neighborhoods once divided by racial segregation and fittingly takes place during Montgomery County’s Remembrance and Reconciliation Month. We invite you to join us in shining our lights in the darkness, promoting unity over division, remembering the past and taking steps toward a brighter future.

* Year with no physical Talbot Avenue Bridge to cross, between demolition of historic Talbot Avenue Bridge and opening of the new Talbot Avenue Bridge

Event history: The inaugural Lantern Walk crossed the historic Talbot Avenue Bridge on November 10, 2018, following the Talbot Avenue Bridge Centennial Celebration a couple months earlier. After the historic bridge was demolished in 2019 to make way for the Purple Line, the second Lantern Walk was held in Rosemary Hills-Lyttonsville Local Park. Due to continued delays in construction of the new Talbot Avenue Bridge, for the following three years the Lantern Walk route connected one side of the bridge construction site to the other, starting in North Woodside and ending in Lyttonsville. In 2023, the Lantern Walk was finally able to cross the new (still incomplete and unopen) Talbot Avenue Bridge, and in 2024, it crossed the completed new bridge for the first time.
